Let Your Light Shine

Today’s devotional

Sharing learning can be an act of contribution. A student explains an idea, describes a change, or offers work that may help someone else see more clearly. The presentation becomes more meaningful when it is grounded in honest understanding and directed toward an audience with real questions.

Jesus tells his disciples that their light is to be visible so others may recognize the goodness of God. First Peter connects gifts with service and the glory of God through Christ. The purpose extends beyond attracting attention to ourselves. What we have received can become something offered for the good of others.

Students may need practical support to share well. Help them choose a clear focus, explain the evidence, and practice with an encouraging listener. Offer appropriate alternatives for different communication needs. Confidence can grow through preparation, but a learner’s dignity does not depend on performing comfortably in public.

Invite the audience to listen with generosity and ask questions that deepen understanding. A presentation can include gratitude for help received and an honest account of what remains unfinished. This makes room for learning to continue after the formal sharing has ended. The story need not close with a claim that every difficulty has been resolved.

As this collection concludes, consider your own teaching as an offering still taking shape. You have gifts to share and care to receive. Bring the work before Christ with gratitude, including the parts that remain uncertain. May the ordinary light of truthful, patient love help others find room to learn, belong, and offer what has been entrusted to them.

Read the Scripture

Open each passage and read slowly. Notice what these words reveal about God and the life before you.

Matthew 5:13-16 · WEBU

13“You are the salt of the earth, but if the salt has lost its flavor, with what will it be salted? It is then good for nothing, but to be cast out and trodden under the feet of men.

14“You are the light of the world. A city located on a hill can’t be hidden.

15Neither do you light a lamp and put it under a measuring basket, but on a stand; and it shines to all who are in the house.

16Even so, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven.

1 Peter 4:10-11 · WEBU

10As each has received a gift, employ it in serving one another, as good managers of the grace of God in its various forms.

11If anyone speaks, let it be as it were the very words of God. If anyone serves, let it be as of the strength which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.

For reflection

How can sharing our learning become a generous contribution rather than a performance of completeness?

A practice for today

Help a learner prepare a brief presentation with one clear insight, one supporting example, and one acknowledgment of help received. Offer practice and an accessible format suited to the learner.

A prayer

Lord Jesus, receive the gifts we are learning to offer. Help us share with clarity, humility, and gratitude. Give learners courage and fitting support, and sustain those who teach them. May the light of ordinary faithful care point beyond our achievements toward your generous love. Amen.
