All Are Welcomed

Today’s devotional

A welcome becomes credible through what happens after the greeting. Can the learner enter the task? Is their name spoken with care? When they make a mistake, do they still have a place? Belonging is experienced through many small encounters that either confirm or weaken the words we say at the door.

Ephesians places good works after the gift of grace. Life in Christ is received rather than earned through performance, and meaningful action grows from that gift. This order can challenge the conditions we quietly attach to welcome. A learner’s dignity does not begin when their behavior, achievement, or background becomes convenient for us.

Romans calls the community to receive one another as Christ has received them. For a teacher, that invitation can reach the arrangement of a room, the examples used in a lesson, and the way a student is addressed after difficulty. Welcome includes clear expectations and appropriate support for participating in shared life.

Listen for the experience beneath the statement that everyone belongs. A student may still encounter an inaccessible task, an assumption about family life, or a joke that makes difference unsafe. Responding to these concerns requires attention and sometimes change. We can preserve the shared purpose while removing an obstacle that need not be there.

Choose one ordinary part of the school day and examine it through the eyes of a learner who often feels on the edge. Ask what would make participation more possible. Christ’s welcome can become visible through such practical care, giving a person room to learn without first having to prove that they deserve a place.

Ephesians 2:8-10 · WEBU

8for by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God,

9not of works, that no one would boast.

10For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared before that we would walk in them.

Pause and respond

For reflection

Where does our stated welcome need a practical change in order to be experienced?

A practice for today

Ask a learner or colleague about one barrier to participation in an everyday routine. Make a manageable adjustment and follow up to learn whether the change made welcome more tangible.

A prayer

Welcoming Jesus, help our actions give substance to our words. Show me where a learner still feels on the edge of shared life. Give me courage to change what excludes and wisdom to offer clear, caring support, so belonging becomes a daily experience. Amen.
